GUILLERMO BARRÓN RÍOS
Percusionista, educador, compositor y músico de sesión originario de San Luis Potosí, México. Se ha desarrollado en agrupaciones que abarcan distintos estilos y géneros musicales, tales como la música clásica, el pop, el flamenco, la música mexicana, la salsa y el latin jazz, entre otros. Ha tocado con artistas internacionales, como es el caso de José Feliciano, The Legendary Count Basie Orchestra, Luisito Quintero y su grupo The 3rd Element, Mike Eckroth, Charlie Sepúlveda, Ralph Irizarry, Julio Alvarado, Oscar Stagnaro, Roby Lakatos, Antonio Lizana, Héctor Martignon, John Benitez, Axel Tosca Laugart, Xiomara Laugart, Gabriel Hernández, Osmany Paredes, Brian Lynch y los cantantes de salsa Roberto Blades, Rafu Warner, Pepito Gómez, Paquito Guzmán y Miguel Ángel Barcasnegras “Meñique”, entre muchos más.
Barrón comenzó a estudiar percusión latina de manera privada en su ciudad de origen con el maestro Ramón Nieto y teoría musical con Jorge Martinez Zapata, trasladándose eventualmente a la Facultad de Música de la Universidad Veracruzana, dentro del área de percusión clásica, en la ciudad de Xalapa, donde a su vez toma clases privadas de percusión afrocubana con Miguel Cruz. Posteriormente continúa sus estudios en el Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico en el programa de Jazz y Música Caribeña, donde se gradúa con los máximos honores (Summa Cum Laude), teniendo como profesores a Paoli Mejías, Andrew Lázaro, Fidel Morales, Javier Rodríguez Curet y Luis Marín, entre otros. Además cuenta con una título de maestría en "Gestión Empresarial de la Industria de la Música", otorgado por la Universidad Internacional de la Rioja.
Se ha presentado en distintos foros y festivales importantes de México, Estados Unidos, Japón, Ecuador, Chile, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Canadá, Australia, Francia, Italia, Chipre, Noruega, Serbia, Reino Unido y Austria, entre los que destacan: Festival Internacional de Flamenco 2019 en Chicago, IL; Festival Internacional de Jazz de Silda 2018 en Haugesund, Noruega; Festival Internacional de Jazz de Nisville 2018 en Nisville, Serbia; Blue note Tokyo en Japón; Festival Internacional de Jazz Ocho Rios 2017 en Jamaica; en Nueva York, El Blue Note Jazz Festival 2016, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, Birland Jazz Club, Iridium Jazz Club, el Museo Metropolitano, BB King Blues Club, Joe’s Pub, The Jazz Gallery; New Jersey Performing Arts Center en Newark, New Jersey; Carpenter Performing Arts Center en Long Beach, California y La Sala Groser de la Musikverein en Viena.
Guillermo Barrón cuenta con un trabajo discográfico titulado “¿CUÁL ES LA PRISA?”, que contiene composiciones y arreglos propios, abarcando sus principales influencias musicales: la música de Latinoamérica, el jazz y el flamenco, resultando un jazz latino contemporáneo. A su vez, ha participado en una gran variedad de producciones discográficas, compartiendo créditos con Gilberto Santa Rosa, Jorge Pardo, Mark Guiliana, Miguel Zenon, Eddie Gómez, Marcus Gilmore, Jhon Benitez, Brian Lynch, Conrad Herwig, Dayna Stephens, Lenny Prieto, Paoli Mejías, Luis Marín, Axel Tosca, Pedro Pérez y Charlie Sepulveda, entre las que se encuentran “Origins” del pianista Alex Conde, “The Jazz Orchestra” con el compositor, arreglista y saxofonista Tonatiuh Vázquez, “Omío” con el baterista y compositor Fidel Morales, “Díaz” con el cantante de salsa Juan Pablo Díaz, “Art of the Duo” con el pianista Carli Muñoz y el percusionista Felipe Fournier, y “Huazzteco”, “XIlitla” y “Yankuilistli”, estas tres últimas con el grupo de jazz mexicano Huazzteco.
Como docente ha trabajado en el Centro de Estudios JAZZUV de la Universidad Veracruzana, en Xalapa, Veracruz y en el Centro de las Artes de San Luis Potosí (ambos en México), dentro del programa de jazz, impartiendo clases de percusión latina, teoría y ensamble.
Actualmente trabaja como músico de sesión para distintas producciones discográficas a nivel internacional.
Percussionist, session musician and composer, born in San Luis Potosí, México. Barrón has developed his style with different ensembles that cover a wide range of musical genres and styles, such as classical music, pop, flamenco, Mexican music, salsa and Latin jazz, among others. Guillermo Barrón began his Latin percussion studies privately in his hometown, with the maestro Ramón Nieto, and musical theory with Jorge Martinez Zapata. He eventually moved to Xalapa, Veracruz, where he joined the classical percussion program of the School of Music at the Universidad Veracruzana. At the same time, he continued taking private Afro-Cuban percussion lessons with Miguel Cruz. Later, he would attend the Caribbean Music and Jazz program at the Conservatory in Puerto Rico, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude, and studied under the direction of Paoli Mejías, Andrew Lázaro, Fidel Morales, Javier Rodríguez Curet and Luis Marín, among many others.
Barrón has performed in several important venues and festivals in Mexico, the United States, Japan, Chile, Ecuador, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Canada, France, Italy, Norway, Serbia, Cyprus and Austria. Guillermo Barrón has one musical production under his belt, “¿CUÁL ES LA PRISA?” (What’s the rush?), that includes original compositions and arrangements, and that cover his main musical influences: Latin-American music, jazz and flamenco, from where it emerges a contemporary Latin Jazz. Additionally, he has also been part of a great selection of musical recordings, sharing credits with Gilberto Santa Rosa, Miguel Zenon, Eddie Gomez, Marcus Gilmore, John Benitez, Brian Lynch, Conrad Herwig, Dayna Stephens, Lenny Prieto, Paoli Mejías, Axel Tosca, Luis Marín, Pedro Pérez, Charlie Sepulveda and Gabriel Rodríguez, among which we find “Origins” with the pianist Alex Conde, “The Jazz Orchestra” with the composer, arranger and saxophone player Tonatiuh Vázquez, “Omío” with the drummer and composer Fidel Morales, “Díaz” with the salsa singer Juan Pablo Díaz, with the pianist Carli Muñoz and the percussionist Felipe Fournier.
As an educator, he has taught workshops and classes at the Universidad Veracruzana’s Centro de Estudios JAZZUV, in Xalapa, Veracruz and at the Center for the Arts of San Luis Potosí (both located in Mexico), as part of their jazz program, teaching Latin percussion, theory and ensemble.
He currently works as a session musician for several record productions, also belongs to Villalobos Brothers band.
